4. What role do the national medical specialty organizations have in the activities of Expert Medical Consultants, Inc?

The national medical specialty organizations via their training programs, clinical practice committees and continuing medical education, determine the national standards of care for their specialties. The standards of care relied upon by the testimony review committees of EMC for each specialty are based upon this body of information to establish the standard of care in clinical situations. However there is no legal relationship between EMC and the medical specialty organizations and these organizations have no responsibility for the decisions of EMC or any of its specialty review committees. The expert medical consultants of each medical specialty are free to apply their analysis of the standard of care in review just as the expert medical witness is so allowed in courtroom testimony. There are no legal or formal consultation links between EMC and any medical specialty organization or entity regarding specific reviews of testimony.
